A creed is a brief statement
of beliefs that outlines the essential truths of the faith. They
progress from simple statements in the bible, to the Nicene
Creed, to complex confessions. The following are some of
the thousands of creeds that have been written. For
samples of individual church creeds, many of which read like a
confession, click on the Congregational button to the

For a history of the creeds,
see Philip Schaff's Creeds of Christendom vol. 1 and vol. 2.
Jarislav Pelikan has finished
his own work on creeds, called Credo, Yale University
Press, 2003. It's expensive, but excellent.
